Brushing your teeth can be great for your memory

Brushing your teeth can be great for your memory. Scientists say that brushing your teeth well in old age can prevent dementia and forgetfulness attacks. There is increasing evidence that gum disease can lead to Alzheimer's and other brain diseases. While experts Correspondingly, the germs and bacteria of the gums also affect mental health. Studies have shown that if the gums of Alzheimer's patients are damaged, the severity of the disease can increase 5 to 6 times.

The mouth harbors a multitude of bacterial species, with the majority being harmless. However, certain types of bacteria, such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, have been identified as contributors to gum disease. Interestingly, individuals with Alzheimer's disease have been found to exhibit higher proportions of these harmful bacteria associated with gum disease. Neglecting oral hygiene can result in the accumulation of bacteria on the teeth. Which in turn causes inflammation of the gums known as gingivitis. If left untreated, these bacteria can persist and penetrate beneath the gum line. Giving rise to a persistent infection called periodontitis. The presence of these bacteria in the gums triggers an immune response, and their prolonged existence can lead to ongoing inflammation.

According to Experts

Scientists from King's College London and Southampton followed 59 men and women with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease for six months. First examining the volunteers' teeth, taking blood tests, and assessing their mental health 20 of them had gum disease. According to experts, people who were suffering from gum disease periodontitis in this period were seen many times more often and their memory started to decrease rapidly. Their blood was high in harmful chemicals that damage the brain and irritate the gums. The reason for this, experts say, is that bacteria that cause gum disease release chemicals that affect the body's natural defense system.

Studies have discovered a significant association between dementia and gum disease. Indicating that individuals with dementia have a higher susceptibility to developing gum disease. Which are believed to be the primary contributing factors. The primary mechanism by which gum disease heightens the risk of cognitive decline is thought to be inflammation.
